Uganda and Rwanda can be visited throughout the year, but the best time depends on your travel interests. Gorilla trekking, wildlife viewing, birding, photography and self-drive trips each have slightly different ideal seasons.
Dry seasons
June to September and December to February are popular because roads are generally easier and trekking trails are less muddy. These months are excellent for gorilla trekking and wildlife safaris.
Green seasons
March to May and October to November can bring rain, but landscapes are beautiful, birding is strong and photography can be rewarding. A proper 4x4 is more important during these months.
Vehicle advice by season
Use a high-clearance 4x4 for rainy-season gorilla routes, national parks and remote areas. A Rav4 can work for easier dry-season routes, but Prado and Land Cruiser options are safer for safari travel.
